The Musketeer market this morning
What does a used Musketeer ask right now?
With 14 for sale this morning, the Beechcraft Musketeer is the 26th most-listed piston type on Barnstormers and second to the Beechcraft Bonanza 35 among Beechcraft types. 9 were listed in the last 30 days and 7 came down, a faster churn than the piston singles average. TX and SC have 2 each.
Asking prices run from $5,000 to $175,000, and half of the 14 priced listings sit between $60,000 and $99,500. The median is $84,450, 17% below the piston singles median of $102,249; it is the cheapest Beechcraft type with a page here. Age matters: 1960s airframes ask a median of $74,950 against $82,000 for the 1970s.
1 seller cut price in the last 30 days, 7% of the live fleet against 27% across every type we track; the average cut took 7% off the ask.

About the Beechcraft Musketeer
What it is
The Musketeer family is Beech's attempt at a Cherokee: a low-wing, fixed-gear, all-metal four-seater that a flight school could afford. The Model 23 arrived in 1963 with a 160 hp Lycoming, and over the next twenty years Beech built a little over four thousand of the fixed-gear versions and the retractable Sierra combined. Beech overbuilt it: the cabin is the widest in its class, most models from the 1970s on have a door on each side, and the trailing-link main gear with rubber shock discs makes anybody's landings look good.
The Musketeer is stable, quiet and comfortable, and it is also slow and a poor climber, particularly the 150 hp Sport with four aboard. Owners who keep them tend to say the same thing: it is the nicest cabin you can buy for the money, and you stop caring about the airspeed.
Variants that matter for price
Sellers type them as 23, A23, A23A, B23, C23 Sundowner, A23-19 or B19 Sport, A23-24 Super, and A24R, B24R or C24R Sierra. The A23 and A23A have the 165 hp Continental IO-346, an orphan engine with almost no support, and they sell for the least. The 19 Sport is 150 hp, two doors, and slow. The 180 hp Lycoming O-360 in the B23 and the C23 Sundowner (1972 to 1983) is the engine everyone wants in the fixed-gear airplanes. The 200 hp Super III and the retractable Sierra carry the fuel-injected IO-360 with a constant-speed prop, and the C24R Sierra of 1977 and later is the pick of the retractables. A late Sundowner with a good autopilot and a clean bonded-wing inspection is the top of the fixed-gear pile.
What buyers check
The wing skins on these airplanes are bonded rather than riveted over much of their area, and the bond can let go in patches after decades of heat cycles. A shop that knows the type will tap-test the skins; one that does not will miss it. The rubber shock discs in the trailing-link gear go hard and flat with age and are a straightforward but not free replacement. Sierras add a retractable gear with an electro-hydraulic pump and a set of doors that like to get out of rig.
Fuel tanks in the wings can seep at the seams. The O-360 and IO-360 are ordinary Lycomings with ordinary parts; the IO-346 is not, and a buyer should price an A23 as if that engine will someday need a conversion that may not be practical. An autopilot, a modern radio stack and a recent interior add value; a set of school logbooks with many hard landings subtracts.
Who it suits
The Musketeer family suits a pilot who wants the roomiest, most comfortable four-seater in the fixed-gear class and flies mostly with two people on trips of a couple of hours. It is not for high, hot, short strips, and it is not a fast airplane. The cross-shop is the Piper Cherokee 180 and Archer, the Cessna 172 and 177 Cardinal, and the Grumman Tiger for someone who values handling over cabin width.

Geography and method
Where are the Musketeers, and how are they counted?
Where they are
How we count
Barnstormers piston categories are read once a day. A listing is "delisted" after it is missing on two consecutive mornings. Days listed starts the morning we first saw the ad, so listings that predate Jul 19, 2026 are excluded from time-on-market figures. Prices are asking prices as typed by the seller. Nothing here is an appraisal. Full methodology.
