The 206 market this morning

What does a used 206 ask right now?

With 17 for sale this morning, the Cessna 206 is the 20th most-listed piston type on Barnstormers and second to the Cessna 182 among Cessna types. 9 were listed in the last 30 days and 3 came down, about the same churn as the rest of the class. AK has the most of them (3), then TX (2).

Asking prices run from $85,000 to $749,000, and half of the 14 priced listings sit between $200,000 and $380,000. The median is $317,000, 210% above the piston singles median of $102,249; no other Cessna type on the site asks more. Age matters: 1960s airframes ask a median of $189,500 against $429,000 for the 2000s, with the 1970s at $352,000.

3 sellers cut price in the last 30 days, 18% of the live fleet against 27% across every type we track; the average cut took 6% off the ask.

Buyer's notes

About the Cessna 206

What it is

The Cessna 206 Stationair is the fixed-gear, six-seat hauler in the Cessna single-engine line: a 210 fuselage on fixed gear with a big Continental in front and, on most of them, a double cargo door on the right side that swallows a stretcher or a drum. It went into production in 1964, ran through 1986, came back in 1998 as the 206H with a Lycoming, and has stayed in the catalog since, well over 8,000 airplanes. It is the pickup truck of the family, and it gets used like one.

It flies heavy and honest, and it lands like a big 182 with a longer roll. Nobody buys a 206 for handling. They buy it because it carries what the seats say it carries, and because a loaded one on floats still gets off the water.

Variants that matter for price

The utility U206 with the cargo doors is the common one; the passenger P206 of the late 1960s has two front doors, no cargo doors, and is rare. Sellers list the model letter (U206, U206A through U206G) and the turbo versions as TU206. The early airplanes carried a 285 hp IO-520; 300 hp came in during the run, and gross weight went up to 3,600 pounds with the later letters. The U206G (1977 to 1986) is the one buyers hunt in the legacy fleet, with a TU206G asking more if the turbo and exhaust are in good order.

The restart 206H uses a 300 hp Lycoming IO-540 and the T206H a 310 hp turbocharged TIO-540. G1000 arrived partway through the H run, and glass H airplanes sit well above round-gauge ones. A 206 with amphibious floats and a cargo pod is priced as a package.

What buyers check

History is everything on a 206. A skydiving airplane has thousands of cycles of full-power climb and idle descent and a rough life around the door; a float airplane has corrosion questions; a private airplane is a different animal at the same hours. Corrosion inspection covers belly skins, tailcone, stabilizer attach, strut fittings and the fuel bays, and the seat-rail inspection applies to every year.

The fuel system, with its reservoir tanks and vapor return, has caught out pilots and mechanics alike, and older bladder tanks trap water in wrinkles. The cargo door and flap interlock should work as designed. On the IO-520 and TSIO-520, cylinders, crankcase cracks and exhaust condition drive the conversation; on the Lycoming H, ask about the crankshaft recall from the early 2000s and turbo hours on a T206H. Value-adding mods are the STOL kits, vortex generators, a cargo pod, long-range or tip tanks, the IO-550 conversion and a modern autopilot.

Who it suits

The 206 suits the pilot who needs to move six people, or four people and all their gear, or a load of freight into a short strip, a lake or the back country. It is not fast for its fuel burn, and it is overkill for a couple who fly to lunch. Realistic cross-shops are the 182 if the load is smaller, the 185 if a tailwheel is acceptable, the Piper Saratoga or Cherokee Six for the same cabin on pavement, and the 210 if speed matters more than gravel.

How we count

Methodology

Barnstormers piston categories are read once a day. A listing is "delisted" after it is missing on two consecutive mornings. Days listed starts the morning we first saw the ad, so listings that predate Jul 19, 2026 are excluded from time-on-market figures. Prices are asking prices as typed by the seller. Nothing here is an appraisal. Full methodology.
