The Glasair market this morning
What does a used Glasair ask right now?
With 17 for sale this morning, the Glasair Glasair is the 18th most-listed piston type on Barnstormers. 6 were listed in the last 30 days and 6 came down, slower churn than the experimental and kit average. MI has the most of them (3), then CO (2).
Asking prices run from $13,000 to $250,000, and half of the 16 priced listings sit between $55,000 and $179,000. The median is $139,750, 17% above the experimental and kit median of $119,500. Age matters: 1980s airframes ask a median of $77,500 against $119,500 for the 2000s.
8 sellers cut price in the last 30 days, 47% of the live fleet against 27% across every type we track; the average cut took 9% off the ask. Of the Glasairs we watched appear, 38% were still for sale 21 days later.
Set against every other type, the Glasair also appears in our note on which models get their price cut most often, with the sample behind each figure.

About the Glasair Glasair
What it is
The Glasair was the first premolded composite kit airplane, launched in 1980 in Arlington, Washington, and it set the template for the fast, slippery two-seat homebuilt. The Glasair I, II and III are low-wing, side-by-side fiberglass airplanes with Lycoming power from 160 hp on the early I up to 300 hp on the III, sold as taildragger, fixed-tricycle and retractable versions. The company went bankrupt around the turn of the century, came back as Glasair Aviation, and added the Sportsman 2+2, a four-seat, high-wing utility airplane that shares nothing with the low-wing line except the name.
The low-wing Glasairs are fast and demanding. Wing loading is high, the stall is abrupt, and a Glasair III on final is a serious machine that rewards a pilot who flies numbers. The Sportsman is the opposite: docile, roomy and happy on floats or big tires. Owners of both talk about build quality first and everything else second.
Variants that matter for price
Sellers write Glasair I TD, FT or RG, Glasair II-S (the stretched fuselage), Super II, and Glasair III, with the RG suffix for the retractable. The III, with its 300 hp IO-540, is the fastest and the most expensive to run, and a well-built III with a modern panel is the top of the low-wing line. A II-S RG with a 180 hp O-360 is the common middle. Early Glasair I kits are the most variable, since builders had the least factory help.
On the Sportsman, the split is between owner-built kits and airplanes assembled in the factory's Two Weeks to Taxi program, which sell on the strength of consistent factory workmanship. Engine choice, tailwheel versus tricycle and float rigging move the ask.
What buyers check
These are experimental amateur-built airplanes, so the builder's skill is the airframe. Ask who built it and look at the layups, bonds and finish work with someone who knows composites. Dark paint on an older fiberglass airframe is a warning, because heat softens the resin and the factory called for light colors. Check the wing spar and control system for delamination and the wet-wing and header tanks for leaks. On an RG, the builder-installed hydraulic gear system is the most likely source of trouble and gear-up landings are common on the type.
Engines are standard Lycomings and get standard scrutiny, with attention to cooling on a III, which runs hot in the climb. Canopy condition, prop history and a documented weight and balance all matter. A Sportsman gets the same builder questions plus the usual tailwheel and float checks. A modern glass panel adds value on all of them.
Who it suits
The Glasair I, II and III suit the pilot who wants two-seat speed and is comfortable with an experimental airplane and precise flying. The Sportsman suits a family or backcountry pilot who wants a Cessna-style utility airplane with folding wings and a modern panel. Realistic cross-shops are the Lancair 320, 360 and Legacy for the low-wing line, the Van's RV-6 or RV-7 for an easier version of the same idea, and a Cessna 180 or Maule for the Sportsman's mission.

Geography and method
Where are the Glasairs, and how are they counted?
Where they are
How we count
Barnstormers piston categories are read once a day. A listing is "delisted" after it is missing on two consecutive mornings. Days listed starts the morning we first saw the ad, so listings that predate Jul 19, 2026 are excluded from time-on-market figures. Prices are asking prices as typed by the seller. Nothing here is an appraisal. Full methodology.
